Paediatric & Adolescent Rheumatology Nurse Specialist
Ms. Helen Strike qualified as a State Registered Nurse and Registered Sick Children’s Nurse from Royal Liverpool Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 1983. She worked at various Paediatric Units throughout England taking on practical and managerial roles. She took her certificate in Education at Cardiff University, Wales and lectured at the Combined Training Institute, Cardiff. She accepted a newly established role as a lecturer practitioner at Bournemouth University/Dorset Hospital.
In 1999 she became a Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Nurse Specialist, initially at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath and latterly at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. She helped establish the service across the South West of England, helping to develop clinics for uveitis, joint injections, outreach, nurse led clinics and infusions for biologics.
In this role she contributed to a number of Research papers, Audits, Royal College of Nursing publications including Methotrexate and Anti TNF Therapies, Health Technology Assessment, No20.34 and co-wrote book chapters in relevant Oxford Handbooks.
She chaired the Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Nurse specialist group and was the nurse representative on the board of the Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology.
