Dr. Batool Al Lawati has graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of Glasgow in 1987 with an MBChB degree.
Her journey began with general medical training at prestigious institutions such as Glasgow Royal and Western Hospitals, where she obtained MRCP and later FRCP qualifications from the UK. Dr. Al Lawati’s passion for rheumatology led her to undergo specialized training at Nottingham Hospital in December 2000, further honing her skills in diagnosing and managing complex rheumatic conditions.
Currently holding the position of Associate Professor at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, Dr. Al Lawati serves as a Senior Consultant in Medicine and Rheumatology. Her clinical interests span a wide spectrum, with particular expertise in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), SLE and pregnancy, and vasculitis.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Al Lawati is actively involved in medical education and academic leadership. She has held significant roles such as Chair of the Written Exam Committee (2015 – 2023) at the College of Medicine and as Coordinator of Final MD Exams. Her dedication to education extends to mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
Dr. Al Lawati is a respected member of the Oman Medical Association (OMA) and the Oman Society of Rheumatology (OSR), where she currently serves on the board. Additionally, she holds an executive position in the Arab League Against Rheumatism (ArLAR) and is a member of the ArLAR-Research Group (ARCH).
Her contributions to the medical field extend beyond clinical practice and education, with numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
