Dr. Shanawaz Hussain graduated from St. Andrews and then the University of Glasgow School of medicine. Dr. Hussain underwent his initial training in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow followed by his Pediatric Residency in the Yorkshire deanery.
Dr. Hussain was selected for training in Pediatric Neurology which he undertook at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. He completed his training and was awarded a CCT in Pediatric Neurology in 2018. Dr. Hussain was subsequently appointed as a Consultant in Pediatric Neurology in Leeds Teaching Hospitals, a major tertiary hospital. He was also appointed Senior Lecturer in the University of Leeds.
His areas of interest include Complex Epilepsy & Epilepsy Genetics, VNS, neuroinflammation, neurometabolic disorders and leukodystrophy. He is also interested improving outcomes for children with a range of neurological disorders in resource limited settings.
Dr. Hussain is a member of the BPNA as a member of the specialist interest groups including epilepsy and neuroinflammatory conditions. His other interests include travelling and hiking.
