Prof. Thomas Hügle is a professor and head of rheumatology in the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) in Switzerland. Prof. Thomas Hügle is a rheumatologist and researcher with expertise in inflammatory joint diseases and digital health. He earned his MD from the University of Freiburg in Germany and completed specialist training in rheumatology across Switzerland (Basel, Lugano), France (Paris), and the UK (Newcastle). He also holds a PhD from Newcastle University and a Master’s in Healthcare Management.
Since 2017, he is the head of the Rheumatology Department at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. His research focuses on the development of digital tools for remote monitoring, patient self-assessment, and AI-assisted diagnostics in arthritis and chronic pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia. He holds several patents, including for digital and non-digital devices. He is the founder of the Digital Rheumatology Network (www.digitalrheumatology.org).
